The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF) will launch its operation to address alcohol-related crimes this year.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirms in his weekly media conference.

He says tackling alcohol-related crimes, including family violence are important as police records have shown a surge in the number of such crimes towards the end of last year.

He says police are ready to collaborate closely with the public to successfully address this issue.

“We did see some issues that were mainly related to alcohol, anti-social behaviour and domestic violence and I have to let people know that that will be a focus for the RSIPF in this new year. We’ll be working hard to engage with the community on those sorts of issues, family violence, alcohol-related anti-social behaviour and you know, ensure that we’re engaging with the community in a very comprehensive way to make sure that we’re responsive to community demands in this area.”
