Solomon Islands New Zealand High Commissioner, H.E Eliam Tangirongo received a courtesy call from Nic Brown, Secretariat Executive Director of the Pacific Islands Chiefs of Police (PICP), and Detective Inspector (DI) Betty Tagini of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force (RSIPF).

PICP was founded in 1970 in Suva, Fiji, and is a collective of Pacific Police Chiefs to exchange information, share learnings and form regional agreements.

The PICP Secretariat is hosted by the New Zealand Police, at the Police National Headquarters in Wellington.

Director Brown presented an overview of the history of PICP, one of the oldest regional bodies in the Pacific. Over the past 50 years, the PICP has worked continuously to build safer and more secure communities by improving policing.

PICP has 22 members, and each state’s Commissioner, Chief or Director of Police represents the membership. For the Solomon Islands, Commissioner Mostyn Mangau is the PICP representative.

DI Tagini is the first female officer from the RSIPF to be seconded to the PICP Secretariat, and over the next six months will be undertaking various facets of project management and assisting with the management of the PICP Women’s Advisory Network (WAN); particularly the WAN’s 20th anniversary celebrations later this year.

DI Tagini appreciates the Secondment, as she will be acquiring valuable skills and knowledge that she will take back with her to RSIPF.

His Excellency the High Commissioner congratulated DI Tagini, and encouraged her to make the most of her secondment.

DI Tagini expressed that it was an honour for her to be selected out of the RSIPF for the secondment, and will do her best to support the Secretariat’s work over the next six months.
