The low depression system in Temotu Province is likely to become a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours, says the Director of Meteorological Services David Hiriasia.

Mr Hiriasia says, the depression continues to develop and intensify.

He says the forecast now is that the depression will become a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours.

“The forecast now is for the depression to become a tropical cyclone within the next 12 to 24 hours, so probably we might have tonight or tomorrow for the system to develop into a tropical cyclone.”

He adds areas close to the cyclone route are Tikopia, Vanikoro and the rest of Temotu Province.

“The areas quite close to the cyclone’s track are Tikopia, Anuta and Vanikoro areas and the system is likely to develop within the whole Temotu area and it is highly likely that this system would become a tropical cyclone overnight or early tomorrow morning.”
