Solomon Islanders thinking of applying for a scholarship under Australia’s Awards Pacific scholarship next year have until June 16 to lodge their application.

In a statement, Australia’s High Commissioner to Solomon Islands, Andrew Byrne urged people to act to avoid missing the mid June cut-off date for the Scholarships.

Mr Byrne said the scholarships are an important part of Australia’s Partnership for Development with Solomon Islands and its investment in education is helping Solomon Islands to build a highly skilled and trained workforce.

Information sessions have been held in Guadalcanal, Isabel, Makira, Malaita and Western Provinces to inform as many people as possible about the Australia Awards program.

The High Commissioner said all sessions were well attended by students, public servants and the general public.

He said the High Commission Office hopes this will help people lodge applications and meet the mandatory requirements.

The Australia Awards Pacific Scholarships are available for undergraduate and postgraduate study in two categories: open category for school leavers, private sector employees and those not in the workforce and public category for public servants.

The Awards are available for undergraduate and postgraduate studies at regional universities such as PNG and Fiji.
