Climate change impacts are now becoming a real threat for the people of Kariki, Shorland Islands.

Kariki Community Village Organizer James Peter told SIBC News, coastal erosion is their number one climate change impact.

He describes the impacts as ‘serious’ for the people of Shortland Islands.

SIBC’s Gina Maka’a reports from Kariki.

“People here at Kariki see climate change as a serious issue. In an interview with the village organiser of Kariki community Mr. James Peter, he said at the moment they no longer enjoy a long white sandy beach they used to have. He said the sea has reached further inland which leads to coastal erosion.”
