Lack of modern communication technology such as mobile phones remains a major obstacle for Aleang villagers, Shortland Islands.

A recent visit by SIBC team to the island has proven that a lot of communities are confined only to themselves when it comes to communication technology.

Aleang woman, Philomena Lalu says telecommunication barrier prevent them from advancing with the rest of the country.

“We are situated inland in the Shortlands and hence, always experiencing a poor network coverage and this creates difficulties for us to communicate with the outside communities and often we may have to use boats only to travel and talk face-to-face especially when major issues arise in our community.”
