Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare says the Democratic Coalition for Change Government welcomes Papua New Guinea’s ongoing commitments to Solomon Islands.

Mr Sogavare made the remarks when he greeted PNG’s Foreign Affairs and Immigration Minister Rimbink Pato, who is on a two-day visit to Solomon Islands.

The PNG Government currently sponsors the training of over 200 Solomon Islands students in various PNG tertiary institutions under the PNG Government Scholarship Grant which started last year.

PNG also funds a development assistance for Solomon Islands worth 100 million kina.

The PNG Foreign Minister is in Honiara purposely to congratulate Prime Minister Sogavare on his successful election as Prime Minister; and to hold bilateral discussions.

Mr Pato had also paid a courtesy call to his Solomon Islands counter-part, Milner Tozaka.

He departs Solomon Islands today.
