The Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Education reminds Education institutions in the country – the importance of English language.

Speaking at the official opening of the Mini English and Art festival, Dr Franco Rodie says it is sad some schools are using Pidgin English as their medium of instruction.

He says English is the official language used throughout the world, therefore it is imperative that schools inside the country practice English daily.

Meanwhile, Dr Rodie says public speaking is an important area for our young people to develop.

“The reason is there is a need to nurture young Solomon Islanders in the area of Public Speaking so that they are equipped with the knowledge and the skill prior to taking up public office. As we know, public speaking is always featured in every official gathering of the Government, Churches and organisations in our country. But most often the skill and techniques are not well demonstrated or are simply lacking.”
