The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development (MID) needs an effective ‘Material Testing Unit’ to control infrastructure quality says the East Honiara MP, Hon. Douglas Ete.

Honourable Ete told parliament, the unit will be responsible for assessing the quality of the material such as tar used in Honiara roads for maximum quality.

He says all government road improvements should be tested by qualified engineers in the ‘Material Testing Unit before being used.

“This thing has not been done. We would want to really see that department in the Ministry functional, especially the Material Testing Unit. No road must be done without a proper test and that test must be certified.”

Mr Ete says this ensure tax payers money is spent only on quality road improvements.
