Family abandons search for man missing along Mataniko River
Relatives and colleagues have called off their search for Chris Nemaia, the Solomon Islands Visitors Bureau employee who went missing last week during a hike along the Mataniko River.
They had been camping at the Tuvaruhu church since last Friday to help police and volunteers conduct searches near the river.
Nelson Manepuru, one of Mr Nemaia’s friends, said they have now turned over all search responsibilities to police.
The Royal Solomon Islands Police Force media unit confirmed that the search would continue with assistance from both Honiara and Guadalcanal police officers.
Police search parties commenced a search yesterday evening that concluded around 4am today. The police maritime unit also scanned the coastline from the Lunga River in north Guadalcanal to Tamboko in western Guadalcanal.
