Family farming will continue to be important, regardless of external threats, says the Chair of this year’s World Food Day National
Committee.

Michael Ho’ota made the statement this morning during celebrations to mark World Food Day in Honiara today.

This year’s theme is ”Family Farming-Feeding the World, Caring for the Earth”, and wants to raise the level of family farming and small farm holders in Solomon Islands.

Speaking on behalf of the caretaker Minister for Agriculture, Mr Ho’ota said family farming will continue to be important regardless of many external threats.

He adds, the Ministry of Agriculture is assisting farmers and processors to increase productivity and economic growth.

“Similarly the Ministry has been assisting cocoa, coconut, oil palm, coffee, poultry, pig, honey and food crop farmers and processors to enhance and increase productivity. These commodities are so important for economic growth.”
