A father of seven from Choiseul ProvinceĀ has appeared behind bars this morning at the Magistrate Court, for allegedly raping his young teenage daughter in 2013.

The father in his 40’sĀ is charged with seven counts of rape.

It is alleged he first raped his third born child when she was only fifteen-years-old and was at home for her school holidays.

On that occasion it was alleged, he told her to go with him and her two younger brothers to collect firewood.

On the way, he told the two boys to go back and told the victim to wait for him.

He then allegedly threatened her with a knife and raped her.

He also allegedly raped her on different occasions after that, often after threatening to kill her.

The victim finally reported him to her aunt and the Police, after which he was arrested and remanded in custody December last year.

He will appear again before the Magistrate Court on 21 this month.

Meanwhile, a concerned Honiara man has called on responsible authorities to reach the provinces with awareness talks to help men start respecting women and girls.

A Matthias Nokali made the comment following the increased reported cases of rape, daily published in the media.

He says as a father of four children, he is disgusted to read or hear from the radio, stories of men, even fathers raping their own daughters.

Mr. Nokali says it is now time for responsible authorities to act swiftly and stop this inhumane practice.
