The Forum Solomon Islands International, FSII, applauds the national government for seeing it fit to ensure all students with high GPA’s are given the opportunity to further their studies in regional universities.

FSII’s vice president, Ishmael Nori, praised the government following a confirmation late last week by the Director of the National Training Unit, Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development who confirmed an increase from the initial 99 scholarships to more than 400.

He said the government has responded positively and reinstated a good number of students to study in regional universities. Mr Nori said, the increase in the number of scholarships indicates government’s commitment to broaden and diversify the country’s human resources.

He stressed, by consolidating trainings according to our development needs, the country is actually gaining returns for its investment. In the meantime, Nori also urged students who have the opportunity to further their studies to value their second chance.

He urged the Government to ensure there is a level playing field for all its sponsored students adding, if it increases the number of scholarships, it should also give the same opportunity to those who need to complete their studies.
