Gizo/Kolombangara Constituency in the Western Solomons has recorded the highest number of objections, says Chief Electoral Officer Mose Saitala.

Mr Saitala confirmed this at a joint media conference held in Honiara last Thursday.

He said the number of voters being objected to in Gizo/Kolombangara is 2,183 saying this is a significant case.

“We have a significant case, I think at the moment I can tell you that Gizo/Kolombangara Constituency is the leading constituency that has the highest number of objections which is about 2,183.

“I am also very happy that the Registration Manager and the Revising Officers have already commenced the public hearing as of yesterday (Wednesday 5th December 2018) with regard to this constituency.

“That is to demonstrate the the challenge we face from this constituency in making sure that we deal with this number within the time-frame is very important to us”.

He added, Central Honiara Constituency is the second highest in terms of objections with 1,458 followed by West Honiara and few others.

“Central Honiara is the next with 1,458 and I think West Honiara also came very close with 853 objections.

“And then you have a lot of the six hundreds, North Guadalcanal 670, we have also Savo/Russells 511, and there’s also another 500 hundred I saw somewhere, Fataleka and Auki Langa Langa as well, 400.”

SIBC Online understands those being objected to have now until 23 December to defend themselves in the Public Inquiries to verify their registrations.
