The Honiara City Council is moving forward with plans for a new 15-storey building that will serve as its headquarters.

Honiara City Mayor Andrew Mua said the city council located a site for the building next to its current office in Honiara.

The city council identified an architect for the project, but it has not yet finalised the plan.

“We are still working on it,” Mr Mua said. “We have someone working on it, but we want to go back to them more to try to incorporate our thoughts into it.”

Mr Mua said amendments can still be made, and the number of storeys in the building will depend on the amount of funding that is secured for the project.

“And it also depends on the ground that it will be on…because some of the sites are waterlogged or have a water container underneath them or something similar,” he said.

Mr Mua said engineering work to assess those factors must be completed before the project plan can be finalised.
