The Ministry of Infrastructure and Development has began deploying assessment teams to parts of the country to assess damages caused by the recent disaster.

Speaking to local media this week, Director of Civil Engineering Harry Rini says, teams were sent out to assess infrastructure damages caused by the flash floods.

He says so far their teams are deployed to Guadalcanal, Makira and Buala provinces.

“From the report that we get from NDMO, the provinces that have been affected after the flash flooding is Guadalcanal, a MID team is in Buala and Makira. We haven’t receive anything from the other provinces, so our focus is on Guadalcanal and Makira. I think in Makira there’s a washout in one of our structure there, so our contractor is already there, hopefully in the next one or two weeks that sections will be reinstated.”
