Kirakira township in Makira Province will soon expand. Thanks to a payment of SBD$1.2 million from the National Government to landowners of Huro land, situated near the township.

The SBD$1.2 million is the first tranche of a SBD$5 million payout to the landowners.

Speaking to SIBC News Premier Thomas Weape confirms the payment and says the payment will be executed between the Minister and Permanent Secretary of the Provincial Government, the Makira Ulawa Provincial Executive and Huro landowners.

“The payment was made in response to the request of the Province as it wants to further develop the Kirakira township, but as we all know the Kirakira town boundary could not expand further, so the alternative is to purchase the Huro land. The landowners have agreed upon the purchase and so we are going to get it done to expand Kirakira. That’s what the government is working on to see how the land will be developed.”
