The Makira Ulawa Premier has called on logging companies operating in the province to fully comply with their logging agreement deals.

Premier Thomas Weape highlights this among challenges his province face during the Makira Ulawa Second Appointed Day celebration in Kirakira yesterday.

George Hemming Director of the Government Communication Unit reports, there was a lack of compliance by logging companies to pay up their provincial licence over the years.

Mr Hemming says Premier Weape has urged logging companies to comply with the province’s regulations, adding they will never manipulate the country’s national logging regulations.

“And he also strongly urged the logging companies operating here, highlighting that most logging companies have failed to comply with provincial regulations especially in terms of revenue collection and their contributions towards the province. He said although the logging companies have tried to escape from the provincial government, they cannot escape the country’s law which will catch up with them, that’s a very powerful word from the Premier.”
