LONG-AWAITED FISHING RAFT FINALLY LAUNCHED AT BITA’AMA
The Fishery Department in Auki, Malaita province has launched a fishing raft at Bita’ama community this morning.
The fishing raft is a long-awaited project for the community.
Maxwell Koli from the Fisheries Department, says the fishing raft is part of their plan to establish a fishery centre in Bita’ama.
He says they are also promoting inshore fisheries in the country.
Meanwhile, SIBC Stringer John Kiri says the fishing raft will benefit the more than a hundred fishermen in Bita’ama.
“The raft we have already launched. When the raft is floating in the sea it will attract all kinds of fish from the sea together. And when they come together there, all of the fishermen will go up to the float and catch all the fish. And then all the fishermen who fish in the deep sea, will catch bonitos, slice them into bits as baits to catch snappers, red snapper, all sorts of fish you see them sell at the Honiara market.”
