The Malaita Ma’asina Forum (MMF) says its position on the West Papua issue is ‘unchanged’ and has called on the Democratic Coalition for Change Government to support the plight of West Papua for freedom.

MMF President, Charles Dausabea reaffirmed his group’s position at a recent media conference in Honiara.

He described their position towards West Papua as “unmoved and unchanged”.

“Our stand is unmoved and unchanged. We call on the DCC Government to tell us where it stands in the plight or suffering of our fellow Melanesians in West Papua. We know the Prime Minister is a Nationalist who is looking after the indigenous people of this country and we believe that he might want to take a diplomatic approach, which at times more powerful than us calling on the streets here and we respect that, but we make our call known in the public forum for the government to support the suffering of our people. They have had enough suffering, they have had enough deaths only for one word, Freedom.”

SIBC News understands, the pressure group had also made a call on the issue to the previous Lilo-led government.
