Two skilled New Caledonia sailors in Men’s windsurfing are dominating the competition, maintaining their lead in both the men’s sailboard light (windsurfing) and men’s heavy (windsurfing) events at the Umi Water Sports Park during the 2023 Pacific Games at the DC Park area in the east of Honiara.

In the men’s sailboard light (windsurfing), Samuel Launay won all three races. In the men’s sailboard heavy (windsurfing), fellow New Caledonian Laurent Cali also kept his winning streak going.

In an interview with SIBC, Sailing competition Manager Patrick Maelaua expressed, “It’s good to see the sailing competition going well, and we’re pleased with the weather so far as we continue with the sailing.

He stated that the fourth day of the competition is progressing well, and there is hope that the first series of the sailing competition will conclude today.

“So far, as of Monday, they have completed their races,” Maelaua reported.

“Today will determine the contenders for the top 5 positions tomorrow (Saturday). After gathering all our results today, we will unveil the top five sailors from the first series of the sailing competition after the competition.”

“Our first medal race for the initial series of sailing is scheduled for tomorrow,” said Maelaua.

He mentioned that the second series of sailing is also scheduled for the upcoming Saturday, which will be followed by the last medal race. So, the second series of the sailing competition is set to kick off on Monday. –ENDS//
