Munda International Airport from the air

The Ministry of Communication and Aviation is collaborating with the Dunde Council of Chiefs to resolve land issues in relation to the Munda International Airport.

Munda landowners have last week threatened to close down the airport over unsettled lease payments.

But Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Moses Virivolomo assured the disputing party, funding delays are being sorted out.

“Our team should have gone down to Munda earlier, but we want to get the right information before going down to sort out the issue once and for all.”

While such issues may arise, Mr. Virivolomo commends the people of Munda for their continuous cooperation with the Government.

“In terms of development, Munda people are very understanding people. They always cooperate with the government, especially now with the Dunde Council of Chief.”

A multi-million dollar World Bank project, Solomon Islands Road and Aviation project which involves the overlay of Munda International Airport runway, construction of the new terminal building, and a new tower for Munda will commence soon.
