Member of Parliament for Central Honiara John Moffat Fugui has called on the Honiara City Council to work closely with the National Government.

Mr. Fugui made this call while congratulating the newly elected Honiara City Mayor Alfrence Fatai early this week in Honiara.

He says, as member of parliament for Central Honiara in the last term and now re-elected, he has noticed a few hiccups that needs to be amended within the Honiara City Council to bridge the National Parliament and HCC.

Mr Fugui adds, this is important because both governing bodies run parallel and deal with the same issues.

“First is for us to amend the Honiara City Council Act so that there is a bridge between the National Parliament with us. It seems we are working in isolation, although we are dealing with the same issues”

The MP for Central Honiara adds, he hopes the newly elected Honiara City Mayor and his executive will work more coherently with the National Government.

“My hope is that now that you are here we can create that bridge between the Honiara City Coincil and the National Parliament, we work together so that we can do things the way we used to do before or even now.”
