Prime Minister and Chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group (MSG), Hon. Manasseh Sogavare has congratulated the newly-elected Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu, Hon. Charlot Salwai.

A statement from the Prime Minister’s office says Sogavare has expressed great pleasure and gratitude to Hon. Salwai on his election as the new Prime Minister of the Republic of Vanuatu.

Sogavare says he observed with keen interest that the new PM enjoyed majority support and secured an overwhelming confidence of the 11th Legislature Parliament of the Republic of Vanuatu.

Sogavare assures, he looks forward to working with Salwai in his capacity as a colleague Prime Minister of a Melanesian country and also with his responsibility as Chair of the Melanesian Spearhead Group.

The MSG Chair also informs his new Vanuatu counterpart of his proposed visit to Vanuatu from the 16th to the 19th this month.

Sogavare says the purpose of the visit is to discuss with Hon. Salwai strategic issues facing the MSG block.

Prime Minister Salwai is from the ‘Reunification of Movements for Change Party’.
