The planned juvenile detention center will be built at Tetere, North Guadalcanal

Government initiative to build a juvenile detention center at Tetere, North Guadalcanal is progressing into designing phase.

Commissioner of Correctional Services of Solomon Islands-Frances Haisoma confirms, as CSSI was now looking to engage a suitable architect to design the facility.

He said, once this was completed, the project will enter its construction phase.

He said this was due to the pressure from the current juvenile detention center at Rove ,which was approaching full capacity.

Mr Haisoma also said the government was fully behind the initiative.

“Currently from the development budget, the government has already given us 300 thousand dollars for the designing phase and for other work that needs to be done for this stage.”
