The Pacific Islands Association of Non-Governmental Organisation (PIANGO) has thrown its support behind the Government’s initiative to review the Political Parties Integrity Act.

PIANGO Board Member Keu Mataroa made the statement in an interview with SIBC News today.

Mr Mataroa said PIANGO supports the review of provisions related to women in political parties and participation in parliament.

“The idea was that in any country that we want the special measures being granted to women to be parliamentarians, a program for women in parliament and also for women leaders to be at the forefront.”

Meanwhile, the PIANGO Board Member says the Association offers awareness, training opportunities and creating pathways to ensure more women are in political parties and in parliament.

PIANGO is currently undertaking a Civil Society Sub-regional consultations aimed at finding ways to develop Pacific Island Countries.
