PM Sogavare held high level Bilateral meeting with PRC President Xi Jinping

Prime Minister Hon. Manasseh Sogavare MP and President Xi Jinping of China have engaged in a high-level bilateral meeting in Beijing. 

Prime Minister Sogavare personally congratulated President Xi Jinping on his election as President of the People’s Republic of China.

“This speaks of the visionary leadership you continue to take on all issues. I use this occasion to convey sincere greetings and best wishes from the Government and people of Solomon Islands to the Government and people of the People’s Republic of China.”

Prime Minister Sogavare registered, the high level engagement between the visit of PRC ‘s former Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Solomon Islands last year was well received by the National government and people. 

The Prime Minister explained to the President the purpose of his current visit…..“I am here to renew my friendship and inform the President of how proud we are to see the fruits of our relations that are changing the face of my capital and country.”

Prime Minister Sogavare stated, his delegation will be cementing more cooperation and exploring opportunities of collaboration both public and private with two provinces. 

He further boasts that people to people relations keep growing.  

“Mr. President, rest assured of Solomon Islands adherence to the One China policy and does not support any provocation on your territory by those that conduct relations through provocation and other narrow agenda.

As the world is fast changing, so too are the principles that guide our relations of equality, respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, non-interference and sharing of mutual benefits”.

Prime Minister Sogavare reaffirms…“China remains Solomon Islands special friend and hope we can see this relationship grow deeper roots of progress, prosperity and partnership.” 

Prime Minister Sogavare also acknowledged China for the 10 million USD in cash assistance through the Rural Sustainable Development Programme (RSDP). 

Others areas of mutual cooperation discussed include Budgetary Support, Extension of Airport, National ID Card, Maritime Hydro Equipment, Environment, Disaster and Humanitarian Cooperation, Infrastructure Cooperation, Health Cooperation, Police and Security Cooperation, wish to place Solomon Islands offer to host China – Pacific pre-deployed Disaster Emergency Supplies under the China – Pacific disaster cooperation mechanism, International Trade and Investment Promotion, Chinese Language Education and Sports Cooperation. 

President Xi Jinping assures Solomon Islands of China’s ever ready-mode to further strengthen current relations and  further expand and deepen cooperation between the two countries in the aforementioned fields- education, trade and economy, science and technology, people-to-people and cultural exchanges, health and work together with China to implement the successful development projects.
