Police in the Western Province are currently dealing with a logging-related dispute at Kolombangara.

Police Commissioner Frank Prendergast confirmsĀ members of the Police Response Team from the Head Quarters have been deployed via patrol boat to deal with the situation.

Speaking to local reporters during his weekly media conference yesterday, Mr Prendergast said police officers have been deployed to Kolombangara over the last two days.

“Police from Western Province including the PPC as well as PRT Officers and the patrol boat have been deployed over the last day or so to attempt to resolve that dispute. We’re calling on all the parties involved to come together and work at resolving their dispute in a peaceful way rather than involving themselves in violence, and while we’re working on resolving that dispute peacefully in reconciling the parties involved, we’ll also be taking stronger action against anyone whose been identified in taking part in criminal activities.”
