The Kukum Traffic Unit of the Royal Solomon Islands Police Force has responded to criticisms on social media over a picture of an Off-duty officer who used the Police Highway Patrol vehicle for his family use.

Forum Solomon Islands International (FSII) had posted a photo depicting the officer with his children in the police vehicle.

Comments under the social media post stated that it was an unethical practice and a total abuse of government vehicle.

However, speaking to SIBC News, Director of Kukum Traffic, Mr Solomon Habatia explained he had authorised the off-officer under his capacity as a director to use the vehicle to address his family’s need.

He said the officer needed the vehicle to make an urgent run to the hospital for medical attention.

Habatia, therefore, urged social media followers to seek explanations from relevant authorities before posting such issues to the public.

He also warns social media members not to create a bad image of the police force without verifying issues.
