Police search for missing boat with three people in Choiseul Province

Taro Police are searching for a 19 feet ray boat with three people onboard that went missing while out on a fishing trip on 7 October 2023.

Acting Provincial Police Commander for Choiseul Province, Inspector Elliot Ngili said the three people left Taro for a fishing trip and failed to return.

The current bad weather was suspected to be the cause for them not returning to Taro.

Police conducted a search as far as Vurango in Choiseul Province and Kariki Islands, covering the border in the Short land Islands, however, unsuccessful with no sighting of the missing boat.

“I call on all communities in Choiseul and Short land islands to look out for the missing boat and report any sightings to Taro police on phone 63199.’’

Inspector Ngili advised boat operators travelling between islands in small boats to contact the Meteorological Service on phone 27658 or the toll free 933 for weather updates or listen to SIBC before traveling.
