POLITICAL PARTIES COMMISSION, E.U TO HOST LEADERSHIP CONFRENCE
The Political Parties Integrity Commission, European Union and other stakeholders will be hosting a Women’s Leadership and Political Participation Conference in Honiara next month.
The conference will bring together international experts, key stakeholders and high-level decision makers to discuss equality in political representation in Solomon Islands and the region.
In a media release, the Registrar of Political Parties Integrity Commission Calvin Ziru said the role of women in politics is a key component in reforming the country’s political system.
Mr Ziru said the Political Parties Integrity Act requires political parties to ensure at least 10 percent of their candidates are women, but parties did not meet this requirement in last year’s election.
The Women’s Leadership and Political Participation Conference will be held in Honiara from June 2nd to June 4th.
