Prime Minister Manele welcomes Malaysian High Commissioner, signals new chapter in bilateral partnership

Prime Minister Hon. Jeremiah Manele received a courtesy visit from His Excellency Hamizan Hashim, High Commissioner of Malaysia to Papua New Guinea accredited to Solomon Islands.

Prime Minister Manele extended warm congratulations to His Excellency Hashim on his diplomatic duties and conveyed best wishes for a successful tenure. 

He underscored the longstanding and cordial relations between Solomon Islands and Malaysia, founded on mutual respect, shared values, and constructive engagement.

The Prime Minister acknowledged with appreciation the enduring friendship between the two nations and highlighted significant prospects to deepen collaboration across a broad spectrum of sectors, including education and human resource development, fisheries, tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, technical cooperation, and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.

As fellow members of the Commonwealth and committed partners within the United Nations system, Prime Minister Manele noted that both countries share common aspirations in advancing sustainable development, safeguarding marine biodiversity, and promoting responsible ocean governance. 

He welcomed continued cooperation in multilateral forums, particularly on issues of critical importance such as climate change resilience and sustainable development.

Prime Minister Manele further expressed confidence that His Excellency’s tenure would serve to further consolidate bilateral ties and advance the shared development objectives of both nations.

In response, His Excellency Hashim, on behalf of the Government and people of Malaysia, conveyed sincere appreciation to the Government and people of Solomon Islands for their enduring friendship and hospitality. 

He expressed gratitude for the trust and confidence extended to Malaysian investments operating in Solomon Islands and affirmed Malaysia’s readiness to explore new avenues of cooperation.

Prime Minister Manele noted that as Solomon Islands prepares for its graduation from Least Developed Country (LDC) status next year, the Government is placing increased emphasis on value addition to its products as part of its broader economic transformation agenda.

In this context, both leaders acknowledged that a strengthened partnership between Solomon Islands and Malaysia will provide a solid foundation to seriously explore prospective investment opportunities and advancing sustainable economic growth for the mutual benefit of their peoples.
