Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has yesterday met the Fiu Hydro Land and Resource Owners Taskforce.

A government statement says the Taskforce presented its 2015-2017 strategic work plan to Prime Minister Sogavare during the meeting.

Taskforce Chairman, Alfred Gegeo commended Prime Minister Sogavare for the DCC Government’s commitment to prioritize the development project on Malaita Province.

Mr. Gegeo says implementing the project is important as it will benefit Malaita Province and the country.

Responding to the statement, Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare has praised the task force for its commitment and approach to open up their land for development.

Prime Minister Sogavare says the current project arrangement between landowners, the government, and donor partners is a classic example of partnership with landowners to develop their resources, particularly in rural areas.

SIBC News understands the total funding for the project is around US$15 million, with the Asian Development Bank providing US$12 million, while the Solomon Islands Government and the Solomon Islands Electricity Authority contributing the remaining US$3 million.
