PRIME MINISTER PLEDGED 20% OF BUDGET FOR EDUCATION

The Prime Minister has pledged commitment to maintain 20 percent of the total annual budget for the education sector in the next four years.

Mr Sogavare made the pledge in his keynote address at the Solomon Islands National University graduation ceremony last Friday, which saw hundreds of students graduating in various fields.

He told the graduation ceremony “the DCC Government would like to maintain this level of commitment in the education sector over the next four years”.

The Prime Minister also spoke on the theme “Empowered to make a difference” and said the Government is determined to bring about positive changes through effective reform programmes to ensure Solomon Islanders are empowered to achieve a meaningful quality of life.

The Prime Minister also said the Solomon Islands National University is the apex of formal education in Solomon Islands and must contribute in this ambitious but realistic endeavour.
