The Rennell and Bellona Provincial Government has relinquished its right to host the 2016 Solomon Games.

The Province has instead requested to host the 2018 games.

The message was officially conveyed to the President of the Solomon Games Council in a letter to the Provincial Secretary and copied to the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Chairman National Sports Council, and the President National Olympic Committee of Solomon Islands.

The Solomon Games Council will endorse the request by Renbel Province as the host for the 2018 Games at a full Council meeting in July.

Meanwhile, the decision by Renbel means the Honiara City Council has now been endorsed as the entity with the right to host.

The Solomon Games Council says preparations are already at an advanced stage to have the Games in Honiara between 1st to 15th July 2016.
