Communities of Santa Ana and Santa Catalina in East Makira are now able to access Bank South Pacific, BSP, basic banking services in their villages.

These basic services include withdrawals, deposits and opening of personal account through the newly established branchless banking agency at Waikaru Retail Store at Gupuna Village, Santa Ana Island.

Guest of honour at last Friday’s official opening and provincial member for Ward 15, Mr. George Gapiara, congratulates BSP Management and BSP Waikaru Agent for partnering to bring down this mostly needed service to the people of the two islands.

Meanwhile, OA Ward Council of Chiefs representative, Mr Albert Wata says in the past canoes went missing and lives were lost at sea when people travel to Kirakira by OBMs for banking business.

Chief Wata says, the service is now made easier, convenient and cheaper and it will greatly assist individuals to save money for their families, parents to send school fees to their children, school teachers to spend more time attending classes, local business to grow and visitors or tourists to access their money at any time.

He also commended Solomon Telekom for providing the coverage which enables BSP bank to reach down to the people of Santa Ana and Santa Catalina.

A BSP media statement says, this is its 33rd branchless agent network across the country.
