A school assembly hall in North Malaita has been destroyed by the current bad weather.

The Assembly Hall of Mbita’ama Community High School was torn down by the heavy rains and strong winds yesterday.

The school’s Careers Master James Ofasia told SIBC News the destruction will affect various school programs and activities.

“Very strong winds and heavy rains have combined to damage the assembly hall that used to have our assembly sessions as well as graduations and other school activities.”

The Careers Master also called on government authorities to quickly assess the situation.

“On behalf of the school administration and the school board, as a careers master of the school, I would be very pleased if I could see the government of the day to step in quickly to help us, along with the disaster council that is dealing with disaster at this point in time.”

SIBC News understands classes for Mbita’ama School has been suspended indefinitely since Wednesday this week.
