Solomon Islands and the Republic of China-Taiwan have both made another pledge to continue to strengthen their bilateral partnership.

The two countries made the pledges yesterday aboard the visiting Taiwanese Navy squadron during a ceremony to welcome the Taiwanese Naval officers yesterday.

Speaking at the ceremony, Taiwanese Ambassador to Solomon Islands Victor Te-sun Yu says Taiwan stands ready to work with the DCC Government.

“Taiwan will stand ready to provide assistance as ever. Taiwan will work with your new Government the DCC Government which is very much reform-minded and very much focused on National development. Taiwan will do our best to chip in and provide some assistance in that regard.”

Meanwhile, the Solomon Islands Deputy Prime Minister Douglas Ete says the assistance Taiwan rendered to Solomon Islands over the past thirty years has been immeasurable.

“We as a people as a country have over time built and cemented this relationship between Taiwan and Solomon Islands and we hope, we believe to the most, that as long as Solomon Islands live as a distinguished territory and a country and the Republic of China Taiwan, we will be friends forever. This is an assurance I would like to extend to you today, your Excellency and your Government.”
