The Member of Parliament for Aoke Langa Langa has expressed disappointment in the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change for not budgeting for climate change adaptation this year.

Mathew Wale expressed his disappointment during Committee of Supply deliberations on the 2015 National Budget in Parliament yesterday.

The Member of Parliament told the Committee, it is disappointing no money is allocated for climate change adaptation.

“All other areas have been budgeted for except the most important one by which to ready our people for the consequences of sea level rise is not there and the sea level rise in our region is more than double the global sea level rise and so why we still have no funds allocated for it is what I am very disappointed about.”

Meanwhile The Aoke Langa Langa MP told the Committee, preventive actions must be taken on climate change in the country.

“Other constituencies being the frontlines of sea level rise are also being affected and it’s a matter of life and death for many of these communities and some preemptive actions taken must fall within what the government is doing regarding Climate Change and so I would like to register that point. Thank you, Chair for the opportunity.”

SIBC News understands, a total of $14 million, 556.00 has been allocated to the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change in this year’s budget.
