A stepfather has been committed to stand trial at the High Court for raping and sexually abusing his stepdaughter.

The father who could not be named to protect the victim was committed by the Magistrate Court this week after a short-form preliminary inquiry.

Principal Magistrate Fatima Taebiru says she is satisfied there is sufficient evidence against the father to stand trial on the charges against him.

The father is charged with seven counts of rape, three counts of unnatural sex and one count of indecent assault.

He allegedly began committing the offences in 2007 when the victim was about 10 years old.
