The Malaita Provincial Conference has heard that development in the province is hindered by antisocial behaviour.

This was one of the presentations made yesterday at the conference on the topic ‘Governance’.

Presenter, Silas Foukona told the conference it is not law and order that hinders development but rather, anti-social behaviour.

“In fact it’s antisocial behaviour that hinders development in Malaita. This was the topic I was given to share with us this afternoon. Antisocial behaviour is not something new in our communities. It is something that happens almost every day in our lives and our communities.”

Mr Foukona says this must be addressed before development can materialise.

“We try to get rid of it by all of us coming together and putting our heads in working together with our police and with everybody, our community and our chiefs to at least lower the rate or watch it increasing. What we want is to see our province thrive, that’s what we want. Our province moving forward is what we want to see. There are two factors, we have antisocial behaviour and the same hindering development.”
