Former Guadalcanal politician Kamilo Teke has said the tax exemption for Members of Parliament directly contradicts the country’s National Motto – “To Lead Is To Serve”.

Mr Teke told SIBC News this decision clearly demonstrates the Government’s ignorance of the National Motto and its meaning.

“Our motto is “To Lead Is To Serve”. I think we have forgotten that motto so it’s better to say “To Lead Is To Serve Ourselves” because it has no meaning to us the ordinary people.”

He calls for a united effort to reverse the decision in a legitimate way.

“I would call on indigenous Solomon Islanders to rally together and battle against this decision.”
