A certificate presentation ceremony was held in Lata, Temotu province today for 20 students who completed their Teacher in Training program in September this year.

Piloted for the first time, the University of the South Pacific Solomon Islands Campus provided the training at its Lata Centre in Temotu province.

Centre Coordinator John Peter Peniop told SIBC News in an interview, they feel this is important as it is the first training locally done in the country.

“We feel this is very important because it’s the first training done locally not just only in Temotu province but in the Solomon Islands as a whole and so we feel that we should have a small ceremony to witness the presentation of certificates.”

Meanwhile, Mr Peniop says the ceremony also aims at inspiring and motivating students in Lata to highly value their education.

“This ceremony is aimed at not only making the students feel part of the actual ceremony they’ve missed but there are other objectives that we hope will be achieved once we have this ceremony done here in Lata and one of those objectives, of course, is to inspire and motivate USP students here in Lata, even both primary and secondary students to highly value their education.”

SIBC News understands, the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Resources Development, Dr. Franco Rodie was the Chief Guest at today’s event.
