The United States Ambassador to Solomon Islands, Walter North has assured Solomon Islands he will look into the issue of removing World War two relics from Solomon waters.

Walter North, also Ambassador to Papua New Guinea and Vanuatu, made the assurance during a recent visit to Honiara.

He was responding to concerns that oil tanks of warships undersea at the Iron Bottom Sound is polluting the marine ecosystem and its dependents.

Ambassador North said it would be an expensive exercise, but the issue is being looked into.

“It’s a little more difficult under water but that we have had some people who are looking at the situation out there.”
