GABRIEL SURI IS NEW CHAIR OF S.I. NATIONAL SPORTS COUNCIL

In sports, the Minister for Home Affairs has appointed former Attorney General Gabriel Suri as the new Chairman of the National Sports Council.

A government statement says Suri’s appointment became effective on Monday this week.

Suri replaces Andrew Nori who passed away in July 2013.

The Home Affairs Minister will also appoint a Deputy Chairman and Council members in coming days.

Speaking today, Minister Ete said these appointments are necessary to ensure that the National Sports Council oversees and promotes sports in the country.

The Minister also said he looks forward to working closely with the new National Sports Council and especially, in amending the current National Sports Council Act.

The National Sports Council is a regulatory body under the Ministry of Home Affairs responsible for sports under the National Sports Council Act.
