The Vanuatu Government has thanked Solomon Islands for its assistance towards Vanuatu’s rehabilitation after the recent devastation caused by cyclone Pam.

Vanuatu’s Deputy Prime Minister Moana Carcasses Kalosil made the remarks during a welcome function hosted by the MSG Secretariat for Prime Minister Sogavare and his delegation in Vanuatu this week.

He said the cyclone was a powerful reminder that climate change is a real issue in the Pacific region, which should call for a close cooperation among the Pacific Island leaders to address climate change.

Meanwhile in response, Prime Minister Sogavare concurred with Mr Kalosil that this is a pressing issue that Pacific Island countries must urgently address.

He said the climate change issue must always be a priority in any regional discussion as the security and safety of Pacific people should always be a key priority to Pacific leaders.

The MSG Chair assured the Deputy Prime Minister of Vanuatu that the issue will be further discussed at the MSG Secretariat and at this year’s Pacific Islands Forum in Port Moresby.
