Honiara City residents have been urged not to spread rumours and cause confusion and fear amongst themselves.

Acting Police Commissioner Junita Matanga says rumours can do a lot of damage to our peaceful communities.

“Rumours on the streets have caused the Chinese to closeup shops because they were often targetted and became victims of any given situations happening in the city. I’d like to assure us all that our city is safe as the police is patrolling the streets. Our leaders, especially church leaders, leaders of groups who are being vocal in terms of a good society, parents and guidance, Solomon Islands is our country.”

She says, each Solomon Islander has the responsibility to ensure Honiara city is safe for everyone to enjoy peaceful co-existence.

Ms. Matanga says today’s rumours has unnecessarily been the cause of the closure of many shops around the City.
