The Anglican Church of Melanesia’s (ACOM) provincial disaster committee has recently handed over eight water tanks to the Diocese of Central Melanesia (DOCM) disaster committee.

Mission Secretary and Chairman of the ACOM disaster committee, Rev. Father George Elo handed over five 3,000 litres and three 2,000 litres of Rotomol water tanks to the Vicar General of the Diocese of Central Melanesia (DOCM) Rev. Father Philip Rongotha and the Dean of Saint Barnabas Provincial Cathedral Rev. Davidson Waeramo on behalf of the recipients.

The provincial disaster committee in their meeting last Tuesday agreed to distribute the water tanks to areas suffering water scarcity including- April Valley Church residents, the Christian Care Centre, the Sisters of Melanesia at Verana’aso, the Taroaniara Station, and the Saint Clare’s Clinic at Taroniara.

Other materials such as gartering and cement for raised floor will be provided after the recipients have identified the location for their water tanks.

A media statement from ACOM said this was part of the continuing rehabilitation exercises rolled out by the provincial ACOM disaster committee to address water and food security in the local communities.
