The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock has today launched the inaugural Agriculture Show and World Food Day 2014.

The week-long program will begin on October 17 and was launched by the Permanent Secretary Jimmy Saelea.

The theme for the Agriculture Show is: ‘Iumi tugeda strongim Agriculture.’

Media and Communications Officer at the Ministry, Ben Rakai says the theme aims to bring together the support of agriculture stakeholders, to strengthen the agriculture production for food security and sustainable livelihood.

Meanwhile, Mr Rakai says the World Food Day theme for this year is ‘Family Farming, Feeding the world, Caring for the earth.’

He says the World Food Day theme aims to raise the profile of family farming.

“By looking at it, each individual family has made up a building block of the agriculture sector. It also gives recognition to our small holder farmers, so I think the theme has been chosen by the Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) of the United Nation to give world attention to the significant role of family farming in terms of eradicating hunger and poverty.”
