Solomon Islands Acting Prime Minister Manasseh Maelanga has sent greetings to the Government and People of Malaysia on the Occasion of its 59th Independence Anniversary celebrations.

Acting PM Maelanga was the chief guest at a dinner hosted by the Honorary Consul-General of Malaysia in Solomon Islands Mr Hii Yii Ging for the Malaysian Community in Honiara.

The event brought together Malaysian Nationals living and working throughout the country in a cheerful celebratory evening last Wednesday.

Solomon Islands and Malaysia have very close diplomatic, business and people to people relationships which were established since 1988.

Both countries were once part of the former British Empire.

The Government Communication Unit reports, Mr Maelanga as saying, the relationship between the two countries is based on mutual interest and respect for the ideals and principles of peace, freedom, democracy as well as respect for fundamental human values and sovereignty.

He adds Solomon Islands diplomatic relations with Malaysia was also based on the ‘Look North Policy’.
